Stevia Art is a Brooklyn based mixed media art company.

Using the line between art and crafts as a jumprope since 1999.

‘Seeds of Kindness’ was an installation done by the Stevia Artist at the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Arts. The viewer was able to receive a free compliment dispensed through the gum ball machine with the request that they pass along a compliment to someone else.

The premise is that kindness spreads and a single act of kindness (such as a free compliment) can start a butterfly effect creating a wave of positive repercussions.

The flower garden metaphor shows you walking through fields of sprouted ‘kindness’, as well as adding beauty to the experience, complete with a bridge and pedestal made of white picket fencing, alluding to the societal ideal.

Character work is an ongoing process here at Stevia art. The artist’s interests often lie in the character itself and less so their personality. By drawing the characters with flat faces devoid of any strong emotion, is more realistic of how each of us live our day to day. It is in essence a romanticized reality as though these characters are ones you would see walking down the street.

‘Frog M. Knickerbocker’ is a movable Frog Armature made from play dough. A symbol of the artist’s inner child, the clothing is a nod to growing up in Brooklyn, NY inspired by vintage pictures of Coney Island in the 1930s.
